If a completed hotel stay has not appeared in your loyalty account, do not book another night yet. First confirm what is missing, wait for the programme’s normal posting period, check that the stay was eligible, and submit the official claim with your folio. A pending or correctable stay can make your apparent elite-night shortfall look larger than it really is.
The short answer: claim only a stay you genuinely completed. Save the final hotel folio, confirmation number and screenshots of your account activity. Use the hotel programme’s own missing-stay channel before paying for any extra nights.First identify what has not posted
“Missing credit” can mean four different things:
- the completed stay is absent from account activity;
- the stay appears, but the elite-night count is wrong;
- the nights are correct, but base points or eligible spend are wrong; or
- the ordinary stay credit is correct, but a promotional bonus is missing.
That distinction decides which clock and which evidence matter. A promotion may post later than the underlying stay. Conversely, a visible points transaction does not prove that the correct number of elite nights has been added. Compare the folio, account activity and status tracker line by line.
If the issue is an apparent qualification gap, read the programme-specific rules before acting. LuxuryAscent’s guides explain why a paid Marriott room does not always produce an elite-night credit, how Hyatt nights relate to the calendar year and Milestone Rewards, and why a pending stay should be resolved before using a Hilton mattress-run cost calculation.
Gather the evidence before you open a claim
Keep one small evidence pack for each stay:
- The final, itemised folio showing the hotel, guest name, dates, eligible charges and payment.
- The reservation confirmation and booking channel.
- Your loyalty number, plus proof it was attached to the reservation if available.
- Screenshots of the missing or incorrect account activity and status total, with the capture date.
- Promotion registration confirmation and the offer terms if a bonus is missing.
- Any hotel or programme case number and the date of each contact.
A card statement can support proof of payment, but it is not a substitute for a final folio when the programme asks for the hotel bill. Marriott expressly requires a copy of the bill for its missing-stay request. If you cannot retrieve one, ask the hotel for a corrected folio before escalating the loyalty claim.
When to claim with Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt or IHG
These timings were checked against official programme pages on 11 September 2026. “Working days” and “business days” exclude weekends and may exclude public holidays. The table applies to ordinary completed hotel stays unless the row says otherwise.
| Programme | Wait before claiming | Filing limit | Official route and follow-up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marriott Bonvoy | Wait 10 business days after checkout. | Marriott’s programme terms require missing-credit requests within one year of the qualifying stay. | Sign in and use Marriott’s Missing Stay Request with the hotel bill. Marriott says to allow up to 10 business days for processing, then phone support if it remains unresolved. |
| Hilton Honors | Wait up to 5 working days after checkout in North America or two weeks outside North America. | Documentation and tier-qualification requests must reach Hilton within six months of the activity. | Sign in and use Hilton’s Missing Stay Request. Retain the submission record and use Hilton Honors support if the account is not corrected. |
| World of Hyatt | Hyatt’s general World of Hyatt contact page does not state a universal wait period or filing limit for ordinary stays. Use the timing in any applicable property or offer terms and contact World of Hyatt promptly once the activity is clearly delayed. | No universal ordinary-stay limit is stated on that general contact page; do not borrow a deadline from a collection-specific page. | Use the official World of Hyatt contact route or recent-stay form, selecting “World of Hyatt Account” and including the confirmation number or hotel and dates. |
| IHG One Rewards | IHG’s current official pages conflict: its main FAQ says 5 business days, while its points FAQ says 7 business days. Waiting seven business days is the conservative approach. | IHG’s points FAQ says members may request missing-stay credit up to six months after checkout. Its programme terms separately say point/stay adjustments will not be made more than 90 days after the statement date, so submit promptly. | Use IHG’s Missing Points form or Customer Care. Do not wait until the outer limit if the stay affects status. |
Check whether the stay was eligible
Before submitting, confirm four points: the property participated in the programme, the rate and booking channel qualified, your number was associated with the stay, and you personally completed the stay where the rules require it.
Booking and paying are not always enough. Marriott lists many third-party website, wholesaler, tour-operator and certain group bookings as ineligible; it also says an ineligible stay generally cannot earn elite-night credit. Hilton’s terms exclude third-party website bookings and say no-show situations do not earn stay or night credit. Hyatt states that qualifying nights require the member to stay at a participating location and pay an eligible rate or redeem an eligible free-night award. IHG’s terms likewise deny points and qualifying-night credit for no-shows, even when a room was charged.
Multi-room bookings also cause confusion. A programme may award points on more than one room while giving elite-night credit for only the room occupied by the member. Claim the exact credit allowed by the terms—not one elite night for every room on the folio.
Never create or alter a folio, claim an unused room, or say that the member stayed when they did not. A legitimate paid no-show can still be ineligible. If the booking channel or rate was excluded, a support agent cannot necessarily turn it into a qualifying stay.
Treat promotional bonuses as a separate claim
If the base stay and elite nights are correct but bonus points are absent, do not submit the same issue as a missing stay without checking the promotion first. Confirm that you registered before the required date, booked and stayed within the eligible periods, used a qualifying rate and property, and complied with any room or earning-preference restriction.
Then use the promotion’s own posting timetable. Offer-specific timing can differ from the underlying stay: IHG’s current FAQ says promotional bonus points may take up to six weeks and that processing varies by promotion. Save the terms that applied when you registered; live offer pages can change or disappear.
Submit a claim that is easy to audit
State exactly what should change: “three elite nights missing”, “stay absent”, “eligible spend understated” or “promotion bonus missing”. Include the hotel name, confirmation number, check-in and checkout dates, folio total, loyalty number and expected credit. Attach the unaltered folio and promotion registration evidence where relevant.
After submission, keep the confirmation screen or email and case number. Do not open multiple duplicate cases while the published processing period is still running. When the period expires, reply to the existing case or contact the programme’s official support channel, quoting the case number and attaching the same evidence pack.
At year-end, take screenshots before and after correction and ask the programme to confirm which qualification year receives the credit. Do not assume that filing in January changes the stay’s checkout year. Recalculate your status shortfall only after the legitimate stay has posted correctly.
What if the claim is rejected?
Read the reason against the rule that applied on the booking and checkout dates. If the rejection appears wrong, respond once with the relevant term, folio and proof of member occupancy. Ask for the precise eligibility reason and a written case outcome. A hotel can correct a folio or confirm occupancy; the loyalty programme controls points, nights and status-account adjustments.
If the stay was ineligible, the useful next step is to understand why and plan future bookings through an eligible channel—not to resubmit altered evidence. Buying additional nights before resolving a correctable claim risks paying twice for the same qualification gap.
Start with the programme’s official missing-stay route above. If the discrepancy concerns a LuxuryAscent order or activation rather than a hotel’s loyalty posting, contact LuxuryAscent Support with your order details. LuxuryAscent does not decide programme claims or promise that a hotel stay will be credited.
