IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite is the third tier in IHG's loyalty programme, sitting between Gold Elite and Diamond Elite. Platinum costs 40 qualifying nights to earn the conventional way, runs through 31 December 2027 when bought direct in 2026, and unlocks complimentary breakfast at full-service IHG brands, one Confirmed Suite Upgrade per year, and a 60% points bonus on every paid stay.
What does IHG Platinum Elite actually include?
The headline benefits Platinum members care about, in order of practical dollar value:
Complimentary breakfast for two at Crowne Plaza, voco, Hotel Indigo, Kimpton, and InterContinental. Worth $25–40 per person at full-service brands. On a three-night Crowne Plaza stay for two adults, that is a per-stay value of $150–240 on breakfast alone. Holiday Inn Express already includes breakfast for everyone, so the benefit applies only at the brands above.
One Confirmed Suite Upgrade certificate per anniversary year. Apply it to an eligible reservation at InterContinental, Kimpton, Crowne Plaza, or voco. The upgrade is confirmed when you book, not at check-in. One of the few certificates in hotel loyalty that converts a paid base room into a confirmed suite before you arrive.
60% bonus on base points per paid stay. A $300 InterContinental night earns 4,800 base points instead of 3,000. Over 30 paid nights that compounds into roughly one free Holiday Inn Express redemption at a 17,500-point property.
Early check-in, late check-out to 2 PM on request, priority customer service line, and welcome amenity at check-in (points or a snack/drink — choose at check-in).
The benefits IHG markets but Platinum members rarely use: guaranteed room availability with 72-hour notice (the actual policy includes a walk clause if the hotel sells out anyway), and Reward Night promotional discounts (sporadic).
IHG Platinum vs IHG Diamond: when does Diamond actually earn out?
Diamond Elite is the next tier up. The marginal benefits over Platinum: confirmed suite upgrade certificates renew every year (versus one), 100% points bonus (versus 60%), milestone rewards every 20 elite nights, guaranteed room availability with no caveats, and a Diamond-only customer line.
Diamond is sold separately at $1,999 — a $1,600 premium over Platinum's $399 price. The maths only works if you book five or more IHG full-service nights a year and would actually use the additional suite certificates. For occasional or volume-flat travellers, Platinum captures roughly 80% of Diamond's practical value at 20% of the cost.

How to qualify for IHG Platinum the conventional way in 2026
The published path is 40 qualifying nights or 40,000 base points in a calendar year. Qualifying nights count paid stays only — award redemptions and free nights from credit-card certificates do not count toward tier progress.
Mid-year qualification is rare for anyone outside a heavy IHG booker. Most members reach Platinum either through a fast-track offer or a credit card.
The 2026 fast-track routes worth knowing
Three are realistic this year:
IHG One Rewards 2026 fast-track promotion. IHG opened a fast-track on 21 January 2026 that earns Platinum after 5 qualifying nights stayed before 31 December 2026. Status earned this way is valid through 31 December 2027. The offer is targeted — check your IHG account promotions tab to confirm eligibility. LoyaltyLobby covered the offer details when it launched in February.
IHG Premier credit card. The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card (Chase, US) grants Platinum Elite status as a base cardholder benefit. The card carries a $99 annual fee and includes a free anniversary night at properties up to 40,000 points. If you can use the free night at a $200+ Crowne Plaza or Hotel Indigo, the Platinum status is effectively free. UK and EU residents do not have this option.
Direct status purchase. 1–2 business days, 2 years of Platinum applied to your existing IHG One Rewards account. No nights, no credit card. The cost is the disadvantage — it makes sense for travellers who would benefit from Platinum benefits over multiple stays in the next 24 months but cannot trigger the fast-track or qualify for the US credit card.
Product spotlight: IHG Platinum Elite Status from LuxuryAscent
If the fast-track and the Premier card are not available to you, IHG Platinum Elite Status from LuxuryAscent is the direct route. $399 buys 2 years of Platinum tier — valid through 31 December 2027 — applied to your existing IHG One Rewards account in 1–2 business days. No qualifying stays. Existing points and stay history are unaffected.
The single-stay value of Platinum at a four-night Crowne Plaza in Europe runs roughly $280 on breakfast for two plus $90 in bonus points value. Three full-service stays cover the entire $399 fee. Anyone planning more than three IHG full-service nights inside a 24-month window earns the cost back in benefits.
The IHG product range on LuxuryAscent also includes IHG Diamond Elite at $1,999 for the top tier and the lower-priced IHG Platinum 1-year option at $249 if the 24-month commitment is not relevant to your travel pattern.
How IHG Platinum compares to other major hotel mid-tiers
| Benefit | IHG Platinum | Marriott Platinum | Hilton Gold | Hyatt Explorist |
| Free breakfast | Yes (full-service brands) | Yes (at most brands) | Yes (US) | No |
| Confirmed suite upgrade | 1 per year | 5-night certificates (5) | No | No |
| Bonus points | 60% | 50% | 80% | 20% |
| Late check-out | 2 PM (request) | 4 PM (guaranteed) | 2 PM (request) | None |
| Lounge access | No | Yes (Executive Lounge) | No | No |
The honest read: IHG Platinum competes most directly with Marriott Platinum on breakfast and points bonus, but loses on guaranteed late check-out and lounge access. It is a better fit than Marriott Platinum if you book Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, voco, or Crowne Plaza properties as your default, because those brands carry stronger Platinum value than the equivalent Marriott full-service brands. For a full Marriott-side comparison, our Marriott Platinum Elite Complete 2026 Guide walks through it.
Who should chase IHG Platinum
This status earns its keep for a few traveller profiles. Anyone who books Crowne Plaza, voco, Kimpton, or Hotel Indigo as their default — the breakfast benefit alone delivers the value. Business travellers with three or four planned IHG full-service stays inside a 12-month window. Anyone planning a multi-night InterContinental or Kimpton stay where one Confirmed Suite Upgrade certificate would lock in a real upgrade rather than wait on chance at check-in.
It is the wrong fit for travellers who stay primarily at Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, or Candlewood Suites. The breakfast benefit doesn't apply at those brands, and the per-stay value drops sharply. For volume Holiday Inn Express bookers, IHG Gold Elite via the Premier card is more cost-effective. For top-end travellers chasing daily lounge use, Marriott Platinum is the better trade.
Frequently asked questions
Is IHG Platinum Elite worth it in 2026?
For anyone booking three or more IHG full-service stays per year (Crowne Plaza, voco, Hotel Indigo, Kimpton, InterContinental), yes. The breakfast benefit alone clears the cost of fast-track or paid Platinum within three stays. For Holiday Inn Express-heavy travellers, Gold Elite delivers most of the practical benefit at a lower price point.
Does IHG Platinum include free breakfast at every brand?
No. Complimentary breakfast for the member and one guest applies at Crowne Plaza, voco, Hotel Indigo, Kimpton, and InterContinental. It does not apply at Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, or other select-service brands. Holiday Inn Express already includes breakfast for all guests with no Platinum-specific addition.
How fast can I get IHG Platinum Elite in 2026?
The fastest legitimate route is direct purchase — IHG Platinum Elite from LuxuryAscent applies in 1–2 business days. The IHG One Rewards 2026 fast-track requires 5 qualifying nights stayed in calendar year 2026. The IHG Premier credit card delivers Platinum from card approval, which typically takes 5–10 business days.
Can I use IHG Platinum's Confirmed Suite Upgrade at any hotel?
The Platinum Confirmed Suite Upgrade certificate is valid at participating InterContinental, Kimpton, Crowne Plaza, and voco properties. It is not valid at Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, or other select-service brands. The certificate is one per anniversary year and is confirmed at the time of booking, subject to suite availability at that point.
How long does IHG Platinum Elite status last when bought direct?
IHG Platinum Elite bought via the LuxuryAscent product is valid through 31 December 2027 — two full calendar years from activation in 2026. Status earned through the IHG 2026 fast-track promotion is also valid through 31 December 2027. Status earned through standard qualifying nights renews based on the calendar year of qualification.
The buy decision
If you book IHG full-service brands three or more times in a 24-month window and the Premier credit card isn't an option, IHG Platinum Elite Status from LuxuryAscent at $399 covers two full years through end-2027, processed in 1–2 business days. The breakfast benefit alone earns the fee back across three full-service stays.
