An eligible IHG Bonus Points Package on a trip you already need may cost less than adding separate mattress-run nights. But an ordinary purchase of IHG redemption points is not the same product and generally does not advance elite qualification.

IHG's classification table includes Bonus Points Packages as elite-qualifying, while ordinary point purchases and elite-tier bonus points generally are not. Diamond can be earned through 70 qualifying nights or 120,000 elite-qualifying points. IHG One Rewards terms, membership levels.

The practical task is to compare the remaining qualifying-points gap with the remaining night gap, using the actual offer on your reservation.

Look at the qualifying balance, not your total points

Your spendable points balance may contain transfers, purchases, promotions and points accumulated in earlier years. It is not a reliable substitute for the current qualification counter.

Open the account's elite progress information and record the correct balance. Then identify ordinary forthcoming stays and what they should contribute. Do not assume every rate labelled "bonus" has the same classification as an official Bonus Points Package.

If the rate description is unclear, ask IHG to confirm the specific offer before paying a premium. A seller or hotel using similar wording is not enough to establish the programme treatment.

Compare the extra cost on an existing trip

Suppose, after projected ordinary travel, you expect to be eight qualifying nights or 12,000 elite-qualifying points short of Diamond. You have three genuine paid nights coming up and are comparing an eligible package rate with the equivalent ordinary rate.

Assume the package would add 4,000 additional qualifying points per night for a $25 nightly premium. These are hypothetical offer terms, not a currently advertised IHG promotion.

Calculation Result
Additional qualifying points 3 × 4,000 = 12,000
Extra room-rate cost 3 × $25 = $75
Separate eight-night run at assumed $80 all-in per night $640
Difference before other costs $565

If every assumption is confirmed, the package solves the points gap for much less incremental spending. You were already taking the three-night trip, so the relevant comparison is the premium over the otherwise suitable booking, not the whole accommodation bill.

What could invalidate that result?

Check whether the extra points are awarded per night or per stay. At 4,000 points per stay, the example produces only 4,000 additional points and leaves 8,000 outstanding. The same price is no longer a complete solution.

Also compare taxes, cancellation conditions and room inclusions. If the package requires a more expensive room you do not need or removes flexibility you value, add that difference to the premium.

Do not subtract the full supposed value of newly earned points unless you have a realistic use for them. To keep the example conservative, the $75 comparison gives no separate cash credit for redemption value.

A points route may not deliver your milestone goal

If you actually want a night-based Milestone Reward, solving a tier's points requirement is not a substitute for satisfying that reward's own conditions. Identify the target before selecting the route.

For example, a traveller seeking a specific lounge reward should use the IHG milestone guide, not assume that the word "Diamond" on an account proves the desired reward has been earned.

Likewise, do not pay for an expensive package solely because the points are qualifying. If you will reach the same tier through already-planned nights, the premium needs another useful justification.

Where does a seller-advertised night package fit?

LuxuryAscent's own IHG mattress-run listing is separate from an official IHG Bonus Points Package rate. The names describe different offerings and must not be interchanged.

This research has not verified the seller service's programme approval or fulfilment. Before considering it, request written activity eligibility, participation, counter treatment, posting, reversal and refund terms. Do not infer qualifying points, qualifying nights or milestones from a price alone.

The decision: compare the marginal cost of a documented qualifying hotel-rate package with the cost of genuinely additional nights. Check the unit, the counter and the reward target before paying for either.
