Hilton points can fund a qualifying mattress run, but a fifth-night-free redemption is useful only when the extra night serves your goal and you can complete the stay. A discounted award is not a reason to spend points on nights you do not need.

Hilton says Reward Stays count towards elite qualification. Its fifth-night-free benefit applies to eligible elite members booking qualifying all-points Standard Room Reward stays of five nights or more; it is not a general discount on every room or payment type. Hilton Honors FAQ.

Compare the total points, not the headline discount

Suppose you need five additional qualifying nights and find a five-night Standard Room Reward priced at 20,000 points per night before the benefit. Under these illustrative equal-night assumptions, an eligible fifth-night-free booking would require 80,000 points rather than 100,000.

The useful comparison is with the best suitable paid stay:

Input Five-night award Five-night paid stay
Points required 80,000 0
Personal point value $0.004 each Not applicable
Room cost $320 in point value $475 all-in
Travel and unavoidable extras $40 $40
Conservative value of rewards earned $0 assumed $20
Economic cost $360 $495

The award is $135 cheaper in this example. If your realistic alternative redemption values points at $0.006 each, the award cost becomes $520, and the paid stay wins by $25.

These are budgeting assumptions, not current Hilton rates or a universal point valuation. Check the total shown in your own logged-in booking, especially where nightly point prices vary.

What if you need only four nights?

With the same hypothetical equal-night price, four award nights also cost 80,000 points. Adding a fifth may use no more points, but it can still require another day away, parking, meals or transport changes.

If that fifth night has no useful qualification or travel purpose, four may be the better stay. Conversely, a genuine fifth night could be worthwhile if it closes another confirmed gap or lets you enjoy the trip. Price those benefits independently rather than declaring the day free.

A two-night gap is a different problem again. A 40,000-point two-night booking uses half as many points as the five-night example. The five-night booking's lower average cost per night does not make it the lower-cost way to solve a two-night need.

Should you spend points already in your account?

Treat them as a travel resource, not as money already lost. Identify the best realistic use you would forgo, including whether award space exists for your preferred dates.

Do not buy points speculatively before checking the desired booking. A purchase adds a cash commitment and does not make award inventory certain. This guide does not assume a current points-sale promotion.

For the broader qualification calculation, use the Hilton mattress-run cost guide. Confirm the specific tier and account balance before choosing the length of a redemption.

A points booking still needs to be an eligible stay

Book a stay you can actually complete. Hilton's rules require a registered staying guest for stay-based credit; the app and the payment method do not remove that condition. Hilton programme terms.

Retain the booking terms and final folio. Compare posted credits with your plan before relying on them for a later trip. A points reservation is a way to pay for qualifying travel, not evidence that an unattended room will count.

Compare a service only after eligibility is established

LuxuryAscent's own Hilton mattress-run listing advertises packages at $49, $450 and $999 for one, 10 and 25 nights respectively, checked on 22 September 2026. These are seller prices, not a Hilton-issued award or guarantee.

Before comparing one with your points booking, obtain written evidence of programme eligibility, participation, posting and remedies for rejection or reversal. This article has not tested that service or verified a no-travel route.

The decision: use a fifth-night-free booking when the whole eligible stay fits your target and its total economic cost beats the alternatives. Do not let a lower nightly average persuade you to buy a larger solution than you need.
